Coffee

What is the difference between specialty coffee (or specialty coffee) and commercial coffee?

Specialty coffee is high quality coffee, due to factors such as the variety of beans, the cultivation process, normally in microlots, selection and artisanal roasting. On the contrary, commercial coffee is coffee produced in wholesale, its quality tends to be inferior and neither its origin nor other details of each stage of the process are taken into account.

Where are the coffees you sell from?

Each season we look for different coffees so that you can discover a small part of the large amount of coffees that Colombia has to offer. Therefore, a coffee that is in this season may no longer be in the next, so go ahead and buy it. The coffees come from different coffee growers and in each bag you can find information about its origin, notes, among others.

How much coffee do I need for the preparations?

The amounts of water and coffee vary depending on the preparation method, the type of coffee and, above all, the taste of each person. At CAFÉ ROHETE we recommend for any type of filtered preparation method a measure between 10 and 15 ml of water for each gram of coffee. Or, more generally, one tablespoon of coffee for every cup of water.

Is it better to buy ground coffee or beans?

To prepare any coffee, it must be ground. However, not all people have a grinder in their home or office, so for practicality the easiest thing is to buy it ground.

However, each type of preparation method has its recommended type of grind and a coffee bean guarantees that you can vary the types of grinds, in addition, coffee beans are preserved better than ground. So our recommendation will always be to buy coffee beans. Additionally, in our store you can buy coffee grinders.

What is the best way to store my coffee?

Our bags come with a 'peel stick' or a zipper that will help you close them once opened, to keep the coffee fresher for longer. We recommend leaving your bag in a cool, dry space, away from sunlight and strong odors. Don't leave your coffee open for too long.

You could also buy an airtight container that will help you store it better. Remember that coffee beans keep longer. Additionally, if you buy small quantities of coffee frequently you will be able to have cups that are as fresh as possible.

Should I store coffee in the refrigerator?

No. Coffee, by nature, absorbs odors. Therefore, it will be impregnated with the smell of other items you have there. Additionally, the refrigerator is a humid environment and the coffee could develop unwanted flavors.
